Good things are happening again for our team! The Washington Nationals finally secured their first walk-off victory of the season on August 29, the last major league team to do so. The hit came from Dylan Crews, a guy who really needed a big moment, making things even better. After the game, Crews said that this was probably his best moment since becoming a big leaguer.

Daylen Lile is on fire. He earned the honor of National League player of the week for last week and then promptly threw his cap in the ring for the same honor this week by batting 1.000 last night with 2 home runs and 4 RBI.
Have you seen Erik Tolman pitch?!! He was superhuman last night. He came in the game in the top of the 8th with the bases loaded and no outs. He stranded all three runners with a strike out and then a double-play ball. Returning in the 9th, he struck out the side, securing the 6-3 come from behind victory against the Marlins. Tolman was a 14th round pick in 2021. He has suffered two Tommy John surgeries and a busted knee. Talk about resilience. Maybe we’ve found our closer?
James Wood had a good rehab game in Harrisburg on Sunday. Seems that the plan was for him to rejoin the team at call-up time but he requested more live at bats so it likely will be a few more days before we see him back in DC. Here’s hoping he comes back in fine form.
The Nationals now have the same number of wins they had at the end of last season with one month left to go. Not where we want to be yet, but it’s progress.
Meanwhile, today is September 1, which means it is call-up time. Until 2020, active rosters could expand on September 1 from the normal 25-man limit to include the entire 40-man roster. Teams could bring up whole waves of minor leaguers, leading to massive dugouts and endless parades of fresh bullpen arms. Games lasted too long with all of the pitching changes, so MLB revised the rule to allow expansion from the now 26-man squad to 28 (including one potential pitcher).
The Nats have called up Yoyo Morales. Morales has had a big year at AAA Rochester, hitting .286 with 25 homers and an .882 OPS. He also brought down his strike out rate from 30% to just under 25%. The 24 year-old infielder plays both first base and third base, crowded positions on the current squad. Maybe we will see him at DH a few times in the next month.
