The Nationals celebrated Father’s Day in a big way — with their inaugural father’s trip for the Tampa Bay series in St. Pete. While it’s the first series the team has not won in a while, the smiles were big all weekend as the dads traveled with the team and took the field for practice tosses with their sons.
Since my last post, the Nationals won a series against Kansas City and won one of three games against Tampa Bay. We have 40 wins and 38 losses. If we were in the AL West, we would be in first place in the division. In the NL East, we are in third place in a competitive race behind the Braves.
Reaching 40 wins at this point in the season makes this team the best team in several years. Games to 40 wins:

Starting tonight, we host the Phillies for 4 games at home. Schwarber is on fire (did you see that he hit 3 HRs yesterday, including 2 in one inning?). But the rest of the team can be mediocre at times. If we could take 3 of 4 that would put us in outstanding position at this point in the season. Fingers crossed.
Maybe the tarps off guys can set the pace for some over the top energy in the stadium — taking a page from Brian Dozier, the original Nats shirtless mascot.
You know who might show up and make things happen? The always-smiling utility wunderkind Nasim Nuñez from the Bronx. He’s a speed demon, leading the league in stolen bases. He flashes the leather in the field with amazing plays and has been on a recent hitting tear. Last Tuesday, when the Nats beat the Royals 6-4, he went 2-2 with two triples, two walks, three runs scored, one RBI and one stolen base. He also had 5 hits in the recent series with the Rays. When he is on, HE IS ON. We need him ON against the Phillies.
My excellent adventure of 2026 is coming to an end. I have enjoyed the last week of the trip in Morocco, which included a dromedary ride in the Sahara desert. What an experience!
I’ll be back in the states on June 25 and at the Nats game in Baltimore on June 26.
