Well-Deserved Rest Day

After 17 consecutive days with games, the Washington Nationals get a day off today.

What did we learn from that arduous stretch? OUR. TEAM. IS. TOUGH. They keep at it and have forged strong bonds built on communication and teamwork. A 9-8 record during that time has the Nats sitting in third place in the NL East, only 1/2 game behind Miami.

The last two games in Chicago were especially exciting as we beat the Sox in 10 innings both time. We saw some of the best starting pitching of the season so far with excellent games from Jake Irvin and Foster Griffin. On Saturday, Irvin threw 5 & 2/3 scoreless innings, while Griffin threw 7 scoreless innings on Sunday.

Indeed, the game on Sunday was tied 0-0 after 9 innings and the Nats’ offense finally came alive in the top of the 10th. CJ Abrams scored designated runner Daylen Lile and then Tena sealed the deal with a solo home run. In the Saturday game, Nunez had 4 RBI. It’s great to see the offensive production across the board! We’re still ranked third in all of MLB in runs per game, with 5.38.

Best wishes to Clayton Beeter as he heads to the 15-day IL with forearm soreness and the Riley Cornelio as he heads back to AAA. Cornelio had a disastrous MLB debut on Friday night when he entered the game in the 7th inning and allowed a pair of earned runs and four hits, tossing four walks to one strikeout in two innings. In his debut he tallied both the first blown save and first loss of his MLB career. Ouch! I am certain we’ll see better outcomes from him in the future.

After our day off today, we head to NY for a 3-game series with the Mets and then host the Brewers and Twins at home. All beatable teams. We need to bring the fire and spirit from the last two weeks to the upcoming home stand. Our home record is 3-10.

Have recently crossed the border between Cambodia and Vietnam on the Mekong river. Represented the team at the Imperial Palace in Phnom Penh on our last day in Cambodia earlier this week.

Let’s become the envy of sports!
