The DC boys of summer are starting to have some fun. The team swept the Brew Crew over the last three days, dropping them from first place in the NL Central to 4th place (remember, we are only 15 games into the season). Meanwhile, the Nationals leapt above the Mets to tie the Phillies for third place in the NL East. How about the dirty unis and the smiles between Wood and Lile in the above photo?
Both the starting rotation and the bullpen looked better in the recent series than they had over the first twelve games. In the middle game of the series, Foster Griffin took a no-hitter into the 6th inning. Brad Lord then performed a masterful job in relief, needing only 2 pitches to get out the final 2 batters in the 6th and only 14 pitches to strike out the side in the 7th. The boys are getting fired up!
The offense continued its hot start in the series sweep, scoring 18 runs over the three games and getting clutch hits when needed. In the final game of the series, Abrams, Young and Lile each smacked two hits, raising their averages to .321, .293 and .273, respectively. Wood added a home run and now boasts an OPS of 1.005.
I believe that the team has the building blocks to be a contender for years to come. In the last post, I wrote about the players in the top 100 prospects. We also have some terrific players who previously made it to the show and are honing their skills in Rochester to prepare for their return to DC. Dylan Crews and Robert Hassell III are both batting .250 with 48 at bats. Everyday play will give them the experience they need to shine in the show.
The series in Milwaukee started a stretch of 17 games without a day off. We next travel to Pittsburgh for a 4-game set against the 9-6 Pirates followed by home action against the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves. Let’s hope the momentum from the sweep in Milwaukee keeps our team energized and on a winning path.

I continue tripping in beautiful Indonesia, cruising on the amazing vessel Aqua Blu. This morning we set off at 5:30am to swim with whale sharks. What an experience!
Let’s be the envy of sports!
